RE. Jims comments
by: William G Gordon

No I don't mind at all Jim and you're spot on about the paper!
Reflections can be tricky in watercolour as you usually only get one chance to get them right, by that i mean it's better to do them in one fluid clean fresh wash as oppossed to a few seperate washes darkening it each time until the desired shade is reached, your painting will never look as fresh and good if done in a lot of washes as it will if it's done in 1 or 2 washes that's only my opinion? To try and go over reflections again and again really doesn't work, well, not for me anyway, but what i find is if you do them all in one wash even if you have to keep re-wetting the paper until you're finished it will pay you better in the end.
Hope this makes sense and i hope it helps.

Its me again
by: Jim the host

Continued from the last comment. Biggest mistake is artists painting the same VALUE of the tree and the reflection. That was a long winded piece||||| How about this for you all to think about.WHAT IF THE TREE WAS LIGHTER IN VALUE THAN THE REFLECTING SURFACE. MAKE your comments right here on Gordons space . He will not mind. Will you Gordon ?

Great work
by: Jim the Host

Hello Gordon , For our non European friends when Gordon describes the painting surfaces as 200lbs not stretched . He means the weight of the paper( if you were to weigh 500 sheets) would be 200lbs. Next the word NOT means Cold Press paper, in other words he stretched 200lbs cold press paper. Thats my understanding , is that so Gordon ? Wonderfull work..Gordon most likely knows the natural law of reflections, for those who dont If the object this case tree, is darker in value then the reflecting surface, get this point it CANNOT be any darker than the value of the reflecting surface If you squint the tree reflection will blend into the reflecting surface. you will still see the tree reflection with open eyes but it will be most likely be a different color. This is the biggest mistake even great artists make time and time again. Continued
