My experience in San Antonio was crucial for my career as an artist. There I met a very special person, Jim Black, who taught me his passion for watercolor with humility and wisdom.

His vast experience in this medium and his passion for teaching with a creative and positive outstanding showed me the way ahead. Jim Black is and will always be a key person in my life.

Once in Spain , Madrid , I´ve been working in this direction, always trying to improve. I have experienced new painting techniques and I consider myself lucky to do what I like most, painting. Beatriz Uribe , Madrid , Spainn.

YOU DON'T NEED TO FAIL IN WATERCOLORS

One of the biggest reasons that students fail in painting Watercolor is.................

JUDGING YOUR EARLY ARTISTIC EFFORTS.

Comparing your work to experienced artists or maybe a photograph.

This is complete self abuse.

The one question you must ask yourself when you stand before the whole world and utter....Oh what a mess.......Am I making a fair comparison.

This is your first attempt.http://www.jims-watercolor-gallery.com/images/before-after-004.jpg

Then to compare it to this image.http://www.jims-watercolor-gallery.com/images/before-after-005.jpg

This is not a fair comparison, is it?

A comparison of other paintings produced by experienced artists or maybe a photograph, this is self abuse swimming in negative thoughts.

This is my best advice for this "malady", is allow yourself to become a bad artist and allow the watercolor to take it's natural course.

This is your expectation http://www.jims-watercolor-gallery.com/images/before-after-006.jpg

But this is how you painted it http://www.jims-watercolor-gallery.com/images/before-after-007.jpg

It is normal to have expectations that are unfoundedly high, you might be a victim of your own internalized perfectionism, a nasty internal and external critic who resides in the left side of the brain keeping a constant stream of remarks disguised as the truth.

"YOU CALL THAT A PAINTING?. WHAT A JOKE, WHAT MAKES YOU THINK YOU CAN BE AN ARTIST"?... AND SO ON AND SO ON, IT CHATTERS TO YOU.

SOMETHING YOU MUST UNDERSTAND AND NEED TO KNOW. YOUR NEGATIVE OPINIONS ARE NOT THE TRUTH. YOU MUST HOLD ONTO THIS THOUGHT.

Now lets go and have a good time with Watercolor.  The most exciting medium out there.

Knowing full well "you can do it".  You can become an up and coming artist.

Let's take all the stress out of your life and learn to paint.
